    A publicly traded real estate organization is seeking a Director, Insurance & Claims Management to oversee enterprise-wide property and casualty insurance programs, claims administration, and risk financing strategies across a large national portfolio.

    This leadership role will serve as a key internal resource on insurance matters, partnering with operations, finance, legal, accounting, and external brokers to manage coverage programs, support claims recovery efforts, and provide strategic guidance on risk-related initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead annual insurance renewal processes, including data collection, analysis, underwriting submissions, and coverage evaluations.
    • Manage complex property and casualty claims, including large-loss and catastrophic events.
    • Coordinate with brokers, carriers, adjusters, consultants, and internal stakeholders throughout the claims lifecycle.
    • Track claim recoveries, deductibles, reserves, and carrier payments.
    • Support disaster recovery planning, emergency response initiatives, and business continuity efforts.
    • Provide insurance-related due diligence and cost analyses for acquisitions, developments, expansions, and capital improvement projects.
    • Partner with finance and accounting teams on budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and actuarial reviews.
    • Review and advise on insurance requirements, certificates of insurance, surety bonds, and contractual risk transfer provisions.
    • Assist with lender insurance requirements and other coverage compliance matters.
    • Evaluate existing insurance programs and identify opportunities for improved coverage, cost control, and operational efficiencies.

    Qualifications

    • 7+ years of progressive experience managing corporate insurance and risk management programs.
    • Strong knowledge of property, casualty, financial, and professional liability insurance coverages.
    • Experience handling complex claims, including large property losses, catastrophic events, or significant recovery efforts.
    • Background working directly with brokers, carriers, adjusters, or insurance consultants.
    • Understanding of budgeting, forecasting, insurance accounting principles, and actuarial concepts.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of an organization.

    Preferred Experience

    • Real estate, REIT, hospitality, construction, property management, infrastructure, or related asset-intensive industries.
    • Experience supporting acquisitions, development projects, or large property portfolios.
    • Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, CRM, or similar certifications are a plus.

    Compensation

    • Base salary: $150,000-$200,000
    • Bonus opportunity

    • Hybrid work arrangement in Chicago

    Additional Information:

    Personal Time Off (PTO) is offered on an accrual basis up to 184 hours a year, 13 Paid Holidays, and up to 6 weeks of Paid Parental Leave. PTO and holiday hours are prorated based on hire date within the calendar year.
