Theresa Severson
Vice President
Retail Properties of America, Inc.

RPAI is a publicly traded REIT that owns and operates high quality open-air shopping centers, including properties with a mixed-use component. In her role, Ms. Severson oversees the insurance placement and risk management for both the operations and corporate exposures, claims management and Business Continuity Plan.  In addition, she has led the formation of and management of several captive insurance companies. 

Ms. Severson has been with RPAI since 2008.  Prior to joining RPAI, Mrs. Severson worked as an Insurance broker handling real estate owners and developer’s insurance programs.

Mrs. Severson received her B.S. in Economics from Illinois State University and is a certified Management Liability Insurance Specialist.

Gail Bartholomew
Nouryon USA, LLC

Gail Bartholomew is the Global Insurance and Claims Manager for Nouryon USA, LLC, in Chicago, IL, responsible for risk management of Nouryon’s US and Canadian operations. Gail also shares responsibility for management of Nouryon’s global insurance programs, and is involved in due diligence, contract review and M&A activities.

Nouryon, a leading manufacturer of specialty chemicals, was spun off from AkzoNobel in 2018. While not a household name, there are very few homes in the US that don’t have a component of Nouryon somewhere within.

Gail began with AkzoNobel as Senior Risk Management Coordinator in 2001, and in 2005 left to accept the role of Underwriting Director with CNA where she managed a property and casualty portfolio of architect and engineering clients, ranging in size from small business to large accounts. In 2008 she returned to AkzoNobel as Risk Manager and went with Nouryon at the separation from AkzoNobel in 2018.

In addition to the RIMS-Certified Risk Management Professional (RIMS-CRMP) designation, Gail has the CRM, CIC, CISR, and CPRM designations from the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research.

Gail and her husband Jim Bartholomew have a blended family of five children, their spouses, two granddaughters, and a wide range of dogs across the households.

Jason is a Senior Director at Revantage Corporate Solutions. In his role he supports the complex risk management programs and needs of Blackstone’s Real Estate portfolio companies. Blackstone is one of the world’s leading investment firms. It is also one of the largest real estate private equity investment managers in the world, with a real estate portfolio that includes hotel, office, retail, industrial and residential properties in the US, Europe, and Asia.

Prior to joining Revantage, Jason held various roles within risk management. Most recently with GLP and First Industrial Realty Trust.

Jason received his degree in Finance from the University of Illinois in Champaign Urbana, and has an MBA from DePaul’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business. He holds the (ARM) designation and is a past president of the Chicago RIMS Chapter.

Andy Adams

The Kraft Heinz Company

Andy is a Senior Manager in the Corporate Risk Management Department at Kraft Heinz. Andy is responsible for the insurance and risk management of Kraft Heinz’ global operations.

Andy graduated from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia and obtained a dual Masters in Business Administration in Risk Management and Finance from Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business in Atlanta, GA. He began his career with Wachovia Insurance Services and worked in the Commercial Property and Casualty brokerage space for Wachovia/Wells Fargo Insurance for 10 years prior to moving to Chicago, IL to be the Risk Manager at Donnelley Financial Solutions.

Andy is highly trained in contract review, negotiations, and complex technology risks. Andy enjoys maintaining a diverse network of cross-functional professionals in various industries. His hobbies include rooting on the University of Georgia Bulldogs, captaining and managing a local adult soccer team, and playing golf.

Grace Galletta
2020-2022 Board Member
Chicago Water & Fire Restoration

Grace is a Relationship Manager and Event Coordinator at Chicago Water & Fire Restoration. She has developed strong partnerships with numerous companies, property managers, insurance agencies, and plumbing contractors.

Grace has provided guidance for several industry-leading events hosted by Chicago Water & Fire Restoration including those that have been hosted more than 1,000 attendees. Grace brings her experience she gained while working for Nordstrom as buyer for Ralph Lauren, marketing for Harley Davidson, Empire Today LLC, and Airoom. Grace has also completed courses in OSHA's Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Courses. In addition, Grace is also certified in OSHA HAZWOPER training. In her spare time, Grace enjoys attending concerts, is a dog-lover, and volunteering her time to Misericordia Home for adults.

Raymond Hernandez
2018-2020 Board Member
The Inland Real Estate Group of Companies, Inc.

Raymond Hernandez is the Senior Risk Management Analyst for Crate and Barrel Holdings, Inc., a home goods and lifestyle brand. Raymond oversees the administration of insurance, claims, insurance litigation, contracts, and risk assessment and treatment across Crate and Barrel, CB2, and The Land of Nod. In addition to the domestic exposure with 109 retail locations, Raymond also reviews and monitors franchise partner insurance and credit risk.

For the years prior to Crate and Barrel, Raymond was a Brokerage Account Representative at COUNTRY Financial in Bloomington, Illinois. In this role Raymond facilitated the placement of Property/Casualty risks for which COUNTRY did not have an appetite with outside wholesalers. This provided exposure to a large scope of lines as well as emerging markets. Prior to this position Raymond was a Personal Lines Audit intern at COUNTRY for two years in the Corporate Underwriting Research & Development Department.

Raymond holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Insurance with a Minor in Mathematics (2010) and a Master’s of Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing (2013), both from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. Currently, Raymond is pursuing his ARM designation and serves on the Chicagoland Risk Forum Planning Committee. In addition to this Raymond is an active member of the North Shore Risk Managers group and the founder of the North Shore Worker’s Compensation and Safety group.

Carnell R. Jones

Interpark Holdings, LLC

Carnell R. Jones is the Risk Programs Manager with Interpark Holdings, LLC, a Parking and Real Estate company headquartered in Chicago with 900 employees, 110 parking real estate assets valued at $1B and over 25 million square feet of property under management.

Currently, Carnell is responsible for development and maintenance of Risk Management and Safety policies, employee safety training, and management of liability insurance matters. Prior to this role, Carnell has functioned as an Operations Manager for Interpark and oversaw a portfolio of 5 parking assets in Chicago. In addition to his current role with Interpark Holdings, LLC, Carnell is a Director on the board of the RIMS Chicago Chapter. Carnell holds a B.A. in Business Management with a Minor in Economics from Morehouse College.

John Kline
Discover Financial Services

John Kline is a risk management leader with over 25 years in consulting, brokering and corporate settings. John established Discover's Risk & Insurance Management Department from the 2007 spin-off from Morgan Stanley. He is responsible for the strategic design and implementation of domestic and international property, liability and professional liability programs for this leading direct banking and global payments company.

His varied career includes leading corporate risk management functions at Yum! Brands, Sears and NationsBank / Bank of America; co-managing multiple fronting carriers for cell phone insurance at Asurion; and, brokering professional liability programs at Minet.

John holds a MBA with a concentration in Risk Management from the University of Georgia. He is an active member in RIMS - a Chicago RIMS Board Member, a member of the Scholarship Committee as a volunteer to the Spencer Board and Chair of the National RIMS Nominating & Governance Committee. He is also a member of USA Swimming's Operational Risk Committee.

Mike Lubben

2019-2021 Board Member

Henry Crown & Company

Mike Lubben is the Director of Global Risk Management for Henry Crown and Company in Chicago.  Henry Crown and Company is one of the largest privately held companies in the United States.  It is a large multi-national conglomerate of real estate, manufacturing and managed leisure operations with over 16,000 employees.

Mike has over 30 years of experience in Risk Management with the majority of time leading Risk Management Departments for Fortune 500 or large privately held firms (such as Tempur-Sealy and Ryder Trucks).  He has been the President of several captive insurance companies and led the formation of others. 

He has been a faculty member for the National Alliance of Insurance Education (presenting at Certified Risk Manager courses nationally), a regular “visiting professor” for RIMS’ “Risk Manager in Residence” Program and has spoken at the annual Business Insurance conference, Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) and many other industry functions. 

Mike has a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) in finance from St. Ambrose University (Davenport, IA) with an undergraduate degree from The University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA).  He has executive MBA diplomas from the Darden School of Business (University of VA; Charlottesville, VA) and the London Business School (London, England).  He holds the industry designations of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Risk Manager (CRM) and Associate in Claims (AIC). 

Just recently, the team Mike leads was chosen as one of four finalists by Business Insurance as “Risk Management Team of the Year.”

Katie Rabs
2020-2022 Board Member
Rotary International

Katie is the Risk Management Analyst for Rotary International, a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unit and take action to create lasing change.  She works with Rotarians, who are insured members, on coverages and policy placement for their captive and day to day operations.

Additionally, she works on the placement of a variety of additional insurance policies for the Secretariat and managing those claims.  She serves as the Safety Officer at some annual meetings and supports the Rotary Mission as part of the risk team. Prior to Rotary, Katie served as a claims representative for Sedgwick CMS handling liability claims for 2 national counts. Katie attended the University of Illinois and is a graduate of Lewis University and is currently finishing up her Associate in Risk Management designation.

Judy Silverman

Walgreens Boots Alliance

Judy is Manager, Insurable Risk for Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (WBA).  WBA is the parent company of Walgreens in the U.S., Boots stores in the U.K., and Alliance Healthcare, a wholesale distributor of products and services throughout Europe.  Judy is responsible for supporting the global insurance placement and risk transfer for the U.S. operations.

Prior to joining WBA 8 years ago, Judy held corporate risk management positions within a variety of industries – equipment leasing, a global diversified manufacturer, an insurance company, and a U.S. holding company that owned a freight railroad, trucking, forest products, and construction services at the time. Judy holds the CPCU and ARM designations and has been an active member of the Chicago RIMS Chapter for many years.

Seung Yoo

Takeda Pharmaceuticals USA

Seung Yoo has 10+ years of experience in the insurance industry with past roles as a broker and underwriter. Currently, is the Senior Manager of Insurance and Enterprise Risk Management for Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S.A., Inc.

At Takeda, Seung is responsible for insurance and claims management for the US operations and has been the Global lead on Clinical Trial and Business Travel accident insurance. Seung also one of the lead members of a project team responsible for drafting Takeda’s Enterprise Risk Management policy.

Seung is a new board member of the Chicago Chapter of the Risk Management Society who would like to be more involved and contribute to the continued success of the insurance and risk management industry.

Julie A. Bean, ARM, CRM
Chamberlain Group

Julie is currently the Head of Risk Management for Chamberlain Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Duchossois Group, a privately held, family-owned company with holdings in the consumer products and technology sectors.

Located in Oak Brook, IL, Julie has direct responsibility for all risk management functions across all the Duchossois operating companies, which employ over 6,000 people worldwide with facilities located in North America, Europe and Asia & the Pacific. In addition, Julie is responsible for the company’s Business Continuity Program.

Prior to joining Duchossois, Julie held the position of Manager, Risk Financing with The ServiceMaster Company.

Julie received her undergraduate in Marketing and English from North Central College in Naperville, IL and holds both the Associate in Risk Management professional designation as well as the Certified Risk Manager certification.

Julie has been actively involved in the local Chicago RIMS chapter throughout her career, most recently serving as the chapter President. She also sits on the RIMS Audit Committee.

Robert Benvenuto

Robert is the head of USI’s Risk & Insurance business across Illinois. He is responsible for team delivery of exceptional client solutions, talent development and market relationships.

USI is a leading insurance brokerage and consulting firm delivering highly customized risk management, property and casualty, employee benefits and retirement solutions. Robert’s team examines business risk and human capital issues leveraging USI ONE™, a proprietary platform integrating analytics, networked resources and strategic planning to deliver quantifiable solutions in financial impactful terms.

Robert has three decades of experience in the Risk & Insurance industry. Prior to joining USI in November 2019, he served in a variety of Leadership, Brokerage, Advisory and Sales roles at Marsh, Aon and Gallagher since 1989.

Robert holds a BS in Economics from the University of Rhode Island and advanced studies in International Business from Richmond University in London.

Steve Boss

Steve Boss has over 16 years of industry experience. Prior to joining Aon, Steve was employed as an independent adjuster by Crawford Global Technical Services and McLarens. Prior to that held commercial property consulting and commercial property restoration project management positions.

Steve’s responsibilities include the delivery of client specific, strategic and tactical, property claims support designed to track and improve processes while assisting in client loss control, the mitigation of losses and expediting of claim settlements. Employing post-loss activities dedicated to best meet all levels of client need, Steve is capable of providing appropriate advocacy, oversight and marketing support in an efficient and effective manner, while ensuring the highest level of service from carriers, third party administrators, vendors and related experts.

Paul Brandel
US Foods

Paul Brandel is the Risk Manager US Foods®. US Foods is one of America’s great food companies and a leading foodservice distributor, partnering with approximately 250,000 restaurants and foodservice operators to help their businesses succeed. Paul began his career in 1999 as multi-line claims adjuster for Marriott International. Following Marriott International, he held multiple positions with Gallagher Bassett servicing both captive and self-injured clients. In 2007, Paul accepted the Claims Manager position with Hyatt Hotels Corporation and then accepting a Risk Manager position with Rockford Mass Transit District in 2010 and Waterton in 2014. Prior to his current position with US Foods, Paul served as the Risk Manager for Eby-Brown from 2016-2019.

Mr. Brandel serves as a Workers’ Compensation Practice Group Advisor for the USLAW Network. He is a past President of RIMS Chicago Chapter (2018) and past chair of the Risk & Safety Committee for the International Foodservice Distributors Association (2016-2019).

Ellen Marie Michael
TÜV SÜD Americas

Ellen Marie Michael is the Strategic Account Management (SAM) Program Leader, Americas for TÜV SÜD. Responsible for accelerating the integration of the SAM program into the Americas region. She goes beyond sales to encompass building strategic, mutually beneficial relationships between the company and its key customers.

Ellen enables the next level of success by building trust between the two organizations, focusing on value, facilitating alignment across the companies, further coaching the SAM team, accelerating opportunity development and driving strategic engagement with our accounts. Ellen also continues as the Account Manager for TÜV SÜD GRC and the primary point of contact for the global SAM community to facilitate expansion of services of our Global Strategic accounts. When not working Ellen trades the heels for workout shoes and can be found working out or hiking a mountain.

Shoba Rajanahally is the president of Inland Risk and Insurance Management Services, Inc., (IRIM). Shoba began her career at Inland as an independent Insurance Consultant in 1994 and subsequently joined the company in 1996 as a Senior Risk Analyst. She was promoted to President of IRIM in 2006 and currently oversees the risk management operations which provide consultation, insurance procurement, claims management and administrative services as required by the Inland entities. Shoba and her team have been responsible for managing diversified real estate assets in excess of $25 billion and servicing five REITs. Currently, her team manages the risks of a bank holding company, land and condo development companies, construction entities, property management companies, association captive, and tax-deferred property exchanges. Along with servicing the entities, Shoba in conjunction with the senior risk team members, identifies and evaluates the risk exposures, and actively markets the property/casualty, medical/dental benefits, worker’s compensation, directors and officers, fidelity, and E&O insurance.

Prior to joining Inland, Shoba was an Independent Consultant and worked on projects for AAR, Centel, and Sears Mortgage Corporation. Her career in real estate began in 1986 when she worked at Balcor as a risk management analyst. Shoba holds an Associate Risk Management designation (ARM) and is a licensed property/casualty and life/health producer. She obtained her Master of Business Administration degree from Loyola University of Chicago and Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Chicago. Shoba is an active member and mentor of RIMS (Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc.) and as a strong believer in the benefits of mentoring, she is also a member of the Women’s Initiative Network at Inland, a structured program that offers educational opportunities and career advice for employees. Shoba has been an active member of the Chubb Real Estate and Hospitality Advisory Board since its inception and AIG’s Client Advisory Board.

Liz Walker

Liz Walker is the Director of Enterprise Risk & Global Insurance at Groupon, Inc.  Prior to Groupon, she was a litigator representing various commercial entities and insurance carriers in complex coverage matters. Over the course of her career, she not only served as outside counsel representing insurers, but also worked in-house managing mass litigation claims and coverage communications for a global insurance company. 

In 2013, she changed roles to join an insured, Chicago tech company, Groupon, Inc., managing Groupon’s interests in various litigation and pre-litigation matters. After 3 ½ years as Senior Litigation Counsel at Groupon, Liz reinvented her career by developing her current role managing Groupon’s global insurance and enterprise risk.  

Liz currently serves as the President of the Chicago Chapter of the Risk & Insurance Management Society and speaks at various risk, insurance, and legal conferences on subjects including cyber risk coverage, insurance and innovation, the future of risk management, and how to internally market yourself to achieve risk management success. In December 2018, Business Insurance magazine named Liz as an Honoree of the 2018 Women to Watch Award.
