Chicago’s Rising Risk Professional network is a thriving community of new-to-the-industry professionals. We are an auxiliary group of RIMS focused on providing networking, career development and educational opportunities to young professionals. Chicago’s RRP network is open to everyone; events and professional development opportunities are usually targeted to individuals 35 years old and younger with less than 7 years’ experience in the industry.
Joining the RRP Board is a great way to form lasting relationships with peers and mentors through collaborative work. RRP board members volunteer up to 5 hour per month to organize networking, career development and educational opportunities for RRP Members.
Board members benefit from increased visibility and access to experienced professionals, fostering a quality network and increased career support.
Board membership is a great way to enhance on-the-job skills such as project management, public speaking, organization, leadership, and mentorship. Board appointments are determined annually in March and occasionally mid-year if openings become available.

All new-to-the-industry Rising Risk Professionals are considered members of the group if they regularly attend RRP events and subscribe to RRP communications. RRP Members are usually 35 years old and younger with less than 7 years’ experience in the industry. There is currently no membership fee, and events are often free or low-cost to attend.
RRP members are highly encouraged to formally join the chapter, which opens additional opportunities to attend Chicago RIMS events at the member price and gain access to additional project/mentorship opportunities. Chicago RIMS offers special chapter-only membership to RRP members. Chapter-only membership does not grant access to national RIMS benefits but is an excellent value to those who want to get involved in RIMS locally.
Many companies are eager to support the professional development of young people within the industry. The majority of Chicago RIMS members secure financial sponsorship from their employer. Gaining approval for association membership may be a new experience for you as a Rising Risk Professional. If you need advice about how to request that your employer cover your Chicago RIMS membership, you can reach out to the RRP Membership Chair or President.
In addition to the Chicago network, there are opportunities to get involved in RIMS at the national level. National RIMS provides discounted membership for certain Rising Risk Professionals, such as students and those under the age of 26 years. National RIMS membership provides a variety of exclusive benefits such preferential pricing on events and educational offerings, exclusive access to RIMS reports and content, and additional networking opportunities.
