    POSITION SUMMARY:

     

    The Director of Risk Management at the Inland Real Estate Group of Companies will oversee complex property and casualty insurance placement, Directors and Officers & Errors and Omissions (D & O/E & O), Cyber, Employment Practices Liability (EPL)/Fiduciary/Crime/Workers Comp, assist in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Environmental Social Governance (ESG) initiatives, collateral recovery, and perform essential financial tasks including forecasting and group P&L review. This role will also be responsible for overseeing Claims and managing a single parent Captive domiciled in the state of Vermont. Inland Risk Management is a shared service throughout the firm, the individual will have the opportunity to work with many different business groups and leadership within the firm. This will be a high-level and visible role.

     

    This role reports to the Chief Risk Officer, EVP.

     

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Demonstrates highest standards of personal and professional integrity, adheres to company’s policies and procedures, and complies with applicable laws, government rules and regulations.
    • Leads the placement and management of property and casualty insurance programs to protect the company's assets and minimize risk exposure.
    • Performs in-depth risk analysis and assessments to identify potential risks affecting the company. Develop and implement mitigation strategies to manage identified risks effectively.
    • Manages single cell captive and coordinates with internal stakeholders, brokers and captive manager to maximize utilization of the captive to successfully grow revenue.
    • Develops and implements strategies for the effective recovery of collateral, minimizing losses and enhancing the financial stability of the company.
    • Conducts financial forecasting related to risk management activities, providing insights and recommendations for strategic decision-making.
    • Participates in the group's P&L review process, analyzing financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
    • Liaises with internal and external stakeholders, including insurance brokers, underwriters, and financial institutions, to negotiate terms and optimize coverage and control costs. This will included advising on insurance market conditions for all lines of coverage.
    • Develops and maintains risk management policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
    • Leads, mentors, and develops a team of risk management professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
    • Performs supervisory functions, including but not limited to, making employment decisions regarding hiring, promoting, demoting and terminating, conducting performance appraisals and coaching and developing associates within the risk management team.
    • Participates as a key member on the Cyber Security Incident Response Team and ESG committee along with internal stakeholders.
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

    • This position directly supervises 3 employees – an Administrative Assistant, a Claims Specialist, and a Risk Lease Analyst.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree/Risk Management or Finance Concentration or equivalent professional knowledge and/or work experience.
    • Master’s in Business Administration preferred.

     

    Experience:  

    • 10+ years Risk Management/Claims/Loss Control Experience focusing on insurance and financial management.

     

    Certifications/Licenses: 

    • Property and Casualty License Required.
    • ARM (Associate in Risk Management) a plus.

     

    Skills: 

    • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook are required for this position.
    • Expert Level Microsoft Excel skills.
    • Knowledge/Experience utilizing RMIS and TPA software
    • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrate leadership and problem solving.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Captive administration experience required.

     

    Travel:

    • 10% to 25% day and / or overnight travel is required for this position.
