The Risk Manager is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with the company’s diverse portfolio of properties and investments. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Risk Management, this position works directly with insurance companies, third party adjusters, insurance brokers and property managers. The Risk Manager will specialize in implementing proactive risk transfer and claims management strategies and minimizing risks for Transwestern’s platform of real estate services, investment, and development companies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Complete reviews of contracts and other legal agreements for appropriate risk transfer on behalf of Transwestern’s platform of companies.
Manages all phases of the claims process from intake and investigation through litigation, settlement, and/or trial, and coordinates third party adjusters, legal counsel, and other parties on efficient claim resolution.
Assist the Sr. VP of Risk Management with renewal of Transwestern’s annual insurance programs, with focus on compiling accurate information for all liability program exposures.
Maintain internal and external Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS) on accurate claim and exposure data and creation of comprehensive risk reports for operational leadership and underwriting submissions.
Serve as subject matter expert on claim related matters, providing guidance and support to operational stakeholders in the field.
Perform regular audits and reviews to ensure adherence to risk management protocols.
Communicate effectively with asset managers, property managers, leasing teams, etc., to raise awareness of risks and ensure alignment on risk management strategies
Provide guidance and training to employees on risk management best practices.
Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory guidelines, including environmental regulations, zoning laws, and financial reporting standards, coordinating with legal and compliance teams to address any compliance issues or concerns.
Stay abreast of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to risk management.
Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and action plans.
Monitor the effectiveness of risk mitigation measures and adjust strategies as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Risk Management, Finance, Business, or a related field.,
Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Risk Manager, Certified Financial Risk Manager) are a plus.
5+ years of proven experience in risk or claims management, preferably in a Real Estate industry.
Familiarity with commercial real estate risk management strategies, insurance, and risk transfer issues.
Thorough understanding of Owner and Property Manager risk and insurance exposures.
Proficiency in property management agreements and various service, vendor, and tenant lease agreements.
Effective management and leadership capabilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
Familiarity with use of online Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS)
Ability to keep information and internal communications confidential.
Demonstrate strong analytical capabilities with a high attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects, changing priorities and time-sensitive, workload(s).
Ability to provide general direction/be self-managed/work independently.
Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable, and courteous service to internal and external customers.
Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication for collaboration, negotiation, conflict mediation, and to work with a variety of personalities at all levels of the company.
Travel may be required.
