    Reports To:  Director, EHS (with dotted line to General Counsel North America for non-workers comp insurance matters)
    FLSA Status: Exempt


    SUMMARY

    Mizkan America has a NEW role for a Manager of Operational Risk & Insurance! We are seeking someone with manufacturing experience (ideally, food manufacturing) who is passionate about developing, implementing and managing risk programs. 

    Are you a self-starter who will take the initiative to create, recommend, and develop new initiatives? This position is for the person who wants to make a positive impact by leading and implementing industry best practices. There is high visibility, and the position does interact regularly with our Japanese holding company’s global insurance and risk management teams.

    The position will have primary day-to-day responsibilities (i) risk management programs impacting our network of operating facilities, (ii) managing Mizkan America’s insurance program, including the relationship with insurance brokers and carriers, (iii) managing workers’ compensation administration and case management, and (iv) leading loss prevention and corresponding compliance efforts impacting our operating facilities throughout the US.  

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The essential duties and responsibilities of the Manager, Operational Risk and Insurance include the following: 

    • Managing insurance claims and the company’s relationship with its outside insurance service providers (e.g., insurance broker, insurance carriers, and third-party risk management companies).

    • Collaborating with third-party administrator, insurance broker and outside counsel, as applicable, in efficiently and effectively managing and resolving active workers’ compensation cases.

    • Coordinating the data collection and other elements of annual insurance policy renewal process.

    • Designing, implementing, maintaining, updating and communicating insurance claim management processes and procedures to applicable stakeholders.

    • Serving as a liaison to third parties conducting site visits on behalf of the company’s property insurance carrier.

    • Establishing and applying a hierarchy of controls to deliver effective risk management solutions.

    • Capturing learnings from workplace injuries and recommending corrective actions to EHS and Operations teams; implementing process improvements, accordingly.

    • Collaborating with HR business partners to administer impact of injured employee on payroll, benefits and related systems and other internal business process matters. 

    • Monitoring and implementing industry best practices in risk management and loss prevention. 

    • Contributing to the design, and leading the implementation of, supply chain risk management programs, including with respect to EHS vendor quality assurance matters.

    • Conducting RFPs as directed by Director, EHS from time to time in furtherance of EHS objectives.  

    • Serving as a primary EHS point of contact for the legal review of EHS contracts and corresponding negotiation with vendors/service providers.  

    • Supporting and managing, as directed, company responses to regulatory citations and information requests.  

    • Contributing to special projects as may be assigned from time to time.

    • Covering for team member PTO and other absences as may be required from time to time.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year university. 

    • 5+ years of direct experience that includes workers’ compensation case management experience and broad insurance experience as part of the insurance industry or in a corporate environment.

    • Experience working with an Insurance Carrier, Third Party Administrator or Broker.

    • Direct experience supporting manufacturing operations; food-manufacturing experience preferred.

    • Working knowledge of risk management best practices and application of hierarchy of controls.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

    • Ability to travel up to 25%.
