Step Up and Lead: 3 Director Positions Open

Nominations are open Monday, October 5 through Thursday, October 15, 2026. Directors serve a three-year term, January 2027 through December 2029.

Chicago RIMS is accepting nominations for 3 open Director positions on our Board of Directors. This is a chance to help guide the chapter, drive strategic initiatives, and shape the future of the Chicago risk management community, while working alongside passionate professionals and growing your own network.

To nominate yourself, complete the short nomination form. Please read the eligibility and Board expectations below first. It helps to have these ready before you start:

  • Your RIMS membership type and national membership status
  • A brief bio (a few sentences on your role, background, and designations)
  • Why you’re interested in serving, and any prior committee or board service
  • The committees you might like to be involved with
  • Your LinkedIn profile URL (optional)
Submit a Nomination

Who Is Eligible?

Any Professional, Associate, or Retired member in good standing is eligible to be considered. You must be a national RIMS dues-paying member, or be prepared to become one if selected. Not sure which type of member you are? The definitions below come from the chapter bylaws.

Professional Member You provide risk management services for the organization that employs you, working for that one organization exclusively. This is the in-house risk manager: for example, a risk manager, risk analyst, insurance manager, or ERM lead at a corporation, public entity, or nonprofit. You may be designated through your employer’s Organizational Membership or hold an Individual Professional Membership.
Associate Member You furnish goods or services to the risk management community and are not eligible for Professional membership. This typically includes brokers, insurers, claims and TPA professionals, consultants, attorneys, and other service providers. (Members under 26 may hold a Young Associate Membership.)
Retired Member A former Professional, Educational, or Associate Member who no longer works in any capacity in the risk management field. Retired Members are also eligible to stand for election.

Good to know:

  • Under the bylaws, a majority of the Board must be Professional Members.
  • Transitional Members (members between jobs) may not stand for election while in transitional status.

Board of Directors Expectations

Please read before submitting. The nomination form asks you to confirm that you agree to the expectations below, which come from Exhibit 2 of the Chicago RIMS Bylaws.

Strong candidates bring leadership potential, critical and strategic thinking, and a commitment to risk management. Directors:

  • Represent the chapter positively and bring member needs and ideas to the Board
  • Read agendas and background material, then provide input and vote at meetings
  • Serve as liaison to one or more chapter committees and report on them to the Board
  • Respond promptly to Board requests, keep chapter information confidential, and sign the Conflict of Interest form

Time commitment

■  Four in-person Board meetings per year (2–4 hours each, scheduled in advance)
■  One Board orientation at the start of your first term
■  The Chapter’s annual meeting, plus other chapter events when possible
■  Occasional additional calls or meetings as needed
Board service is voluntary and uncompensated. The chapter does not reimburse local travel; other travel on chapter business may be reimbursed at the Officers’ discretion.
